Learn about the unique geologic history of Montana Sapphires.  Crystel Thompson will explain how Montana Sapphires form, what makes them so unique and how to find them in the wild. Her approachable and engaging way of explaining complex processes will garner appreciation of these remarkable gemstones among rockhounds, collectors and curious minds.

Topics during this talk include: How Sapphires Form, Hard Rock Mining vs. Alluvial Deposits, How to Identify Sapphires in the Field, and Where and How to Mine Sapphires in Montana.

Crystel Thompson is a member of the Helena Mineral Society, an owner of the Spokane Bar Sapphire Mine, and an expert on Montana sapphires.

With years of hands-on experience in the field, she has spent countless hours studying, collecting, and sharing the natural beauty and geological significance of Montana’s sapphires. Her work combines a deep love for the land with a strong foundation in mineralogy and field discovery.
