The School of Classical Ballet and its student Company present Sleeping Beauty: an Exploration in Ballet.

On Thursday, July 27th, 2:00 - 3:00 pm, come join us as we explore the story of Sleeping Beauty through the eyes of a ballet dancer!  As we meet the story's magical characters, you will get to see a live ballet performance of excerpts from the classic repertoire of the Sleeping Beauty ballet, choreographed in the 1800s.  Donning tutus, ballet students will perform fairy solos while children in the audience will have the opportunity to learn a few dance steps themselves and decide how they would portray each character!

Ever wonder how ballerinas dance on their tiptoes? We will end the hour looking at pointe shoes and how they support strong dancers.

This creative exploration is intended for community members of all ages who are interested in, or curious about the art and athleticism of ballet, and learning more about the Sleeping Beauty ballet.

Ballet music by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Original choreography by Marius Petipa

Restaging by Leigh Schanfein and Tiffany Wardell
