We invite you to come by and experience a beautiful tapestry created by artists who participated in a monthly educational program facilitated by the Yellowstone Art Museum and Montana Women's Prison. This piece of art consists of 32 individually-crafted sections of wool that the artists created through a process known as "wet felting."
Under the guidance and instruction of Marilu Metherell and featured-guest-artist Beth Korth, participants explored how symbols in a work of art can help express an individual's identity. Marilu and Beth led discussions on concepts related to iconography, leading to a better understanding of how symbols can shape and communicate both individual and culture-wide beliefs. With this knowledge and understanding, the artists created their own symbols and individual expressions which were then stitched together and turned into the collective piece of art on display here!
Marilu Metherell is Adult Education Coordinator with the Yellowstone Art Museum, and Beth Korth is Art Education and Visitor Center Manager with the Tippet Rise Art Center.
