Join us for Billings Public Library's participation in the Copyist Program, a series of exciting art events held at local museums, galleries, and libraries.
Eight local artists have been invited to station themselves under the library's oculus as they study and reinterpret Joseph Henry Sharp's "Near Fort Washakie" in their own style and preferred medium. The goal of this program is to provide artists with a rare opportunity to closely study the original work of a notable artist and attempt to recreate it. Copyist programs are popular at galleries across the world because they allow artists a chance to develop their skills as they intimately engage with a rare work of art, and onlookers get to observe and interact with the artists as they work.
Artists have already been selected, but onlookers are welcome to attend!
Future sessions will be scheduled at the Western Heritage Center and Yellowstone County Museum, and additional sessions at the Yellowstone Art Museum and Billings Public Library.
